small-energy-starState of Texas Schedules Energy Star Tax Holiday

May 23-25, 2009 has been scheduled as a three day holiday on state and local taxes when consumers buy products bearing the Energy Star label. It is patterned after the state’s sales tax holiday on clothes and shoes.

This is a great opportunity for consumers to save money on energy efficient goods. If you are thinking about replacing that old refrigerator or changing  out your air conditioner now is the time to do it.

Products qualifying for the exemption are:

  • Air conditioners priced under $6,000, both room & central units
  • Clothes washers, but not clothes dryers
  • Ceiling fans
  • Dehumidifiers                                 ac-blog-pic-22
  • Dishwashers
  • Light bulbs (incandescent and fluorescent)
  • Programmable thermostats
  • Refrigerators priced under $2,000

These items must bear the Energy Star Label.

Great Deal for Consumers

This is a great deal for homeowners. They will save at the checkout and also at home on their energy bills. More information about the upcoming tax holiday is available here.  This will be the second year Texas has offered this holiday.
